
A special segment on gender equality issues was organized within the framework of the 150th IPU Assembly. The heads of international organizations and representatives from the parliaments of various countries attended it.
The event was chaired by the President of the Interparliamentary Union, Tulia Ackson. In her speech, she noted that the movement, founded in 1985 by 22 women parliamentarians from different countries, was the world’s first gathering of women in parliament.

It was emphasized that since its establishment, the Forum of Women Parliamentarians has established itself as a significant tool for promoting the principles of gender equality and empowering women.
In her speech, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, highlighted the significant role of the IPU in further strengthening the growing role of women in the socio-economic, political, and legal spheres both at the regional and global levels.

Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong, noted that gender equality is not only a women’s issue but also an issue of democracy, human rights, and sustainable development: “And this requires concrete actions and steps from all of us, especially from men in leadership positions”.
During the segment, the participants expressed their opinions on the topic and exchanged ideas.
