On November 22-23, Samarkand hosted the Asian Forum on Human Rights.

The session organized on the second day was devoted to cooperation of national human rights institutions with state bodies and civil society institutions in ensuring respect, protection of human rights and their observance. Reports of the Chief Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia Jamsran Byambadorj, the Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan Tokon Mamytov, Chairperson of the National Commission on Human Rights of Indonesia Ahmad Damanik and others were heard.

The Asian Forum on Human Rights will be held traditionally

Based on the results of the two-day discussions, the forum participants adopted the Samarkand Declaration of Human Rights. It was emphasized that this document will contribute to an even more effective implementation of objectives set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Sustainable Development Goals.

A meeting of the Director of the National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akmal Saidov and the OSCE Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir was held within the framework of the Asian Forum. Issues of bilateral cooperation and plans for the future were discussed.
