In this issue of the project “10 Facts from the Lives of Thinkers” you can get acquainted with essential facts from the life of Abu Nasr Farabi.

1) The great thinker, scientist-encyclopedist of Central Asia Abu Nasr Farabi (full name – Abu Nasr Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Farabi) was born in 873 in Farob city on the banks of Syrdarya river.

2) He studied first in his hometown, then Samarkand, Bukhara and Baghdad.

3) Abu Nasr Farabi was engaged in such sciences as mathematics, astronomy, medicine, music, logic, philosophy, linguistics, natural history, and literature.

4) The merits of the scientist in science are the explanation of the works of Greek thinkers and their supplementation with new ideas.

5) Abu Nasr Farabi created a classification of sciences that was considered perfect in the fifteenth century.

6) For his deep knowledge of the philosophy of Greek scientists and its addition to new ideas, he was given the name Al-mu'allim al-sani, the Aristotle of the East.

7) Farabi wrote over 160 works, most of which have been lost.

8) According to sources, Farabi spoke more than 70 languages.

9) The scientist’s legacy spread to both Eastern and European countries.

10) Abu Nasr Farabi died in 950 in Damascus and was buried in the Bab al-Saghir cemetery.
