Western Asia Youth and Junior Chess Championship is taking place in Tashkent.

Western Asia Youth and Junior Chess Championship is taking place in Tashkent on November 16-23, 2018. The championship is held under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation among participants at the age from 6 to 20.

More than 300 chess players are participating in this championship. They have come from 11 countries of West Asia, such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, UAE, Tajikistan, Sri-Lanka and Uzbekistan. Young chess players will compete in classic chess, rapid and blitz. Winners of the championship will be awarded the title of world grandmaster, international master and FIDE master. 

At the opening ceremony of the championship, the first Vice President of Uzbekistan Chess Federation Khusan Turdialiyev emphasized the role of chess in the modern world, and noted that recently this kind of championships are held in Uzbekistan, as the leadership of the country pays great attention to development of chess and sports in general. He also mentioned about our youngest compatriot, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, who has become one of the youngest grandmaster in the history of chess at the age of 13.

During the ceremony, Gulrukhbegim Tokhirjonova has also been awarded. She has reached the World Women’s Championship quarter finals for the first time in Uzbekistan’s chess history. Gulrukhbegim has won many experienced and famous world chess players.

The championship will last until November 23.
