Tashkent hosts Uzbekistan – Germany inter-MFA political consultations

On November 20, 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted the 15th round of Uzbekistan – Germany political consultations, Uzbekistan MFA reports.
Uzbekistan delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dilshod Akhatov, and the delegation of Germany, Michael Siebert, Commissioner of the Federal Foreign Office for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia.
The parties exchanged views on the current state and priority areas for development of bilateral cooperation, as well as relevant issues on the international agenda.
Implementation of the agreements reached within the framework of the official visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Germany in January this year and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in May to Uzbekistan was considered in detail. It was noted that the exchange of visits at the highest level became the beginning of a new stage in relations between the two countries and contributed to the intensification of cooperation in all areas.
Mutual interest in further development of multifaceted and mutually beneficial ties through joint implementation of new initiatives and projects was confirmed. Cooperation in trade and economic, tourism, interparliamentary and cultural-humanitarian spheres was discussed.
The parties praised the positive dynamics demonstrated by the mutual trade turnover, which, according to 2018, reached 772 million US dollars, and in January-September of the current year amounted to 744 million US dollars.
Prospects for expanding cultural-humanitarian relations and scientific-educational exchanges, including in training, organization of joint training workshops, opening of branches and master's programs were also discussed at the meeting.
The Ambassador of Germany to Uzbekistan, Gunter Overfeld, attended the negotiations.
