At the 24th World Chess Championship for Persons with Disabilities, held in India’s Goa, the Uzbekistan national team won five medals.

A welcoming ceremony for the returning chess players was recently held at Tashkent International Airport.

The tournament, organized by the International Chess Federation and the Paralympic Committee of India, featured a prize fund of $15,000 and brought together 89 chess players from 16 countries. Representing Uzbekistan, Urolbek Normuminov won a gold medal in rapid and a silver in classical chess. Abdurakhmon Azimjonov earned bronze medals in both classical and blitz formats. Nurmuhammad Ergashev was awarded a bronze medal in rapid chess.

As highlighted at the reception ceremony, the success of these para-chess players reflects the high intellectual potential of Uzbekistan’s youth.
