In Samarkand region, vegetables and citrus fruits are grown in 326 greenhouses, covering 466 hectares.

According to the regional Department of Plant Quarantine and Protection, crops in 12 greenhouses are cultivated using hydroponic methods, while 280 greenhouses use soil-based farming. The main products include tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, potatoes, lemons, mandarins, and greens. These products are exported abroad and sold on the domestic market.

“Our task is to encourage the cultivation of high-quality agricultural products in the protected ground, enhance export potential, and strengthen protection against pests and insects”, said Elyor Ortiqboyev, State Phytosanitary Inspector of Samarkand District Department for Plant Quarantine and Protection.

He noted that there are 81 greenhouses covering 106 hectares in Samarkand district alone.

Quality remains a key factor in delivering products to consumers. Phytosanitary inspectors from the department provide enterprises and individuals engaged in greenhouse farming with the necessary consultations and recommendations.
