On March 10-11, the International Opera and Ballet Festival program will include screenings of the play “Russian Hamlet” by the theater of Boris Eifman, the Art and Culture Development Foundation reports.

In his sensational production, the choreographer turned to the figure of Tsar Paul I, one of the most mysterious and controversial characters in Russian history. In the new version of the ballet, Eifman, leaving the plot outline without significant changes, rethought the choreographic score and made it even more inventive, sophisticated, and emotionally rich.

The outstanding choreographer has more than 40 high-profile productions. Approaching ballet art from an extraordinary side, he never feared experiments. Productions back in the 70s with a combination of academic and “pointless” choreography using musical compositions of modern progressive rock were perceived as obvious innovations.

Boris Eifman is a laureate of the Benois de la Danse, Golden Mask, and Golden Soffit theater awards.
