Tashkent hosted the first International Central Asian Congress on Neuromuscular Diseases.

The event brought together pediatric neurologists, geneticists, pediatricians, orthopedists, and resuscitation specialists from France, Germany, Russia, the UAE, Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, and Georgia. Representatives of international scientific organizations, charitable foundations, and the general public were also invited.

At the opening ceremony, Minister of Health Asilbek Khudoyorov and Director of the Board of Trustees of the charitable public foundation SMA UMID Sherzodkhon Kudratkhuja spoke about the attention given to the healthcare sector in Uzbekistan, the ongoing reforms, and the importance of scientific cooperation.

During the congress, participants discussed key topics such as “Modern targeted therapies for SMA”, “Multidisciplinary approaches to patient care”, “The role of genetic diagnosis and screening”, “Innovations in physiotherapy, nutrition, and respiratory support”, and “Psychological and social support for patients and their families”.

A key outcome of the event was the adoption of a joint consensus document among Central Asian countries.
