On September 6, Tashkent hosted the Scientific and Expert Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on Information Security.

The event was organized by the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan jointly with the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the SCO.

The meeting was attended by more than 30 leading experts representing the relevant ministries, agencies, scientific, academic and analytical circles of the SCO member states.

The agenda included a discussion of the latest trends and achievements in digitalization, the exchange of advanced national experience in countering threats to information and cyber security in the context of ensuring human rights and the rule of law in the SCO space.

At the opening of the forum, the Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Eldor Aripov emphasized that the SCO countries should develop a coordinated mechanism to counter modern challenges and threats in the information sphere.

“This event is aimed at finding an approach, mechanism and means of comprehensive counteraction to threats in the information field”, said Mr. Aripov. – Information and communication technologies strengthen the material and technical base, stimulate socio-economic development and, most importantly, give people new knowledge and skills.

Thematic sessions were held on the expansion of access to information, information and ideological threats and the development of effective response measures, protection of critical information infrastructure in the context of dynamic development of ICT.

The participants of the forum noted that the event has become an effective platform for strengthening regional cooperation and countering threats in the information and cyberspace of the SCO member states.
