October 24 is the United Nations Day! Uzbekistan joined the UN as an independent sovereign state on March 2, 1992. A year later, the UN opened an office in Tashkent. The UN is now leading the country towards the Sustainable Development Goals with the support of 25 agencies, foundations, and programs, supporting national development priorities until 2030.
Sabine Machl, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan, congratulated our compatriots on the occasion of this significant date:
– October 24 marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945. On this day, I send my warmest greetings and congratulations to all our valued partners: national and international organizations, parliamentarians, civil society, media, the private sector, academia, community leaders, and youth.
Our work in Uzbekistan focuses on effective governance and justice for all, inclusive human capital development, health and well-being, and sustainable, climate-responsible development. Our daily work touches the lives of thousands of people: women and children, farmers, teachers, doctors, healthcare and social workers, people with disabilities, young innovators, and volunteers across all regions of Uzbekistan.
I started my job as the UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan on June 1st. My recent travels to Samarkand, Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, and the Republic of Karakalpakstan have shown me the courage and positive spirit of the people of Uzbekistan. These visits were filled with interactions with local authorities, young people, women farmers, entrepreneurs, and senior citizens.
I am particularly grateful for the strong partnership and continuous support of the Government of Uzbekistan towards the UN’s work in the country. This collaboration has been instrumental in achieving progress on critical development priorities. I am proud to support the government as the UN Resident Coordinator and work in Uzbekistan, a country committed to progress and the well-being of its people.
