The renovation of the permanent museum exhibitions and the restoration of the interior of the Mirzo Ulugbek and Tilla-Qori madrasahs, located within the Registan complex in Samarkand, have been completed.

“These updated exhibitions interpret the historical and cultural heritage of Samarkand and the Timurid era in a contemporary format, presenting Samarkand as one of the greatest centers of science, education, and art of that time”, says Khonkul Samarov, Director of the Registan complex. “The exhibition at the Mirzo Ulugbek Madrasah has been enriched with over 50 rare manuscripts by Abu Rayhan Beruni, Ibn Sina, Ali Qushchi, as well as scientific instruments and historical materials that highlight the work of the great 15th-century astronomer and scholar Mirzo Ulugbek. Meanwhile, the exhibition at the Tilla-Qori Madrasah reveals the history of the Registan ensemble’s formation and its architectural grandeur. The display is complemented by digital reconstructions and interactive elements that allow visitors to engage more deeply with history”.

Most of the exhibits have been restored through cooperation between French and Uzbek restorers. The design of the renovated museum space was developed by the French architectural firm Wilmotte & Associés, and the unique spirit of Eastern traditions has been harmoniously incorporated in accordance with modern museological standards.
