Samarkand hosted a ceremony of awarding certificates for objects in the World List of Tourist Attraction.
The Secretary-General of the Eurasian Economic Cooperation Organization Vladimir Piskurev, Deputy Hokim of Samarkand region R. Qobilov and others spoke about this list and its significance at the event.
At the second session of the Eurasian Council for Culture, Science and Education, held on November 7, 2017, in the city of Antalya, Türkiye, the Convention “On the promotion of objects of tourist attraction in the interests of the sustainable development of communities, peoples and nations” was adopted. As part of the implementation of the Convention, the International Committee on Tourism Attractiveness and Sustainable Tourism Development was formed. The main goal of its activity is to promote sights and territories on the path of sustainable development of communities, peoples, and nations.
– World tangible and intangible heritage is registered and protected by UNESCO, – said Mr. Piskurev. – The list we are compiling will promote and safeguard such objects that attract attention worldwide. Tourists will be allowed to choose beautiful objects. To date, our list includes 2,200 objects located in various parts of the world. The Registan ensemble and the Shakhi Zinda complex have been added to this list. Voting lasted for four years. These objects were highly appreciated by tourists from 198 countries. Notably, more than 50 percent of those who voted expressed the opinion that the Registan should become the first object for tourists to visit in the world.
