On March 18, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Chinaz district of Tashkent region to get acquainted with the work carried out in the water sector.

The shortage of water resources is increasing every year due to global climate change.

Glaciers in Central Asia have shrunk by about 30 percent over the past 50 years. Crops are irrigated mainly by the furrow method. Laser leveling has not been carried out in many areas. The collector and drainage networks are outdated. As a result, a lot of water is wasted.

The population and the demand for agricultural products are growing.

In this regard, the President of Uzbekistan always emphasizes the need for economical and efficient use of water, keeping accurate records. All these issues are reflected in the Concept for the development of the water management of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2020-2030, approved by the decree of the President of July 10, 2020. By the concept, on February 24 this year, a three-year strategy for water resources management and development of the irrigation sector was adopted. The program sets specific tasks for the expansion and state stimulation of the introduction of water-saving technologies, attracting foreign investment in this sphere.

One of the results of this work was the sown area in the village of Yangiabad in Chinaz district. 850 hectares of land have been developed here due to the attraction of 1 million 350 thousand dollars. Three reservoirs with a total capacity of 202 thousand cubic meters have been built. Drip irrigation has been introduced.

“Andijan-72” cotton variety will be grown under the film on 702 hectares in double rows. For this, modern seeders were imported that are capable of laying hoses for drip irrigation and covering the seeds with a film simultaneously with planting seeds.

Export-oriented melons and gourds will be grown on 148 hectares. Part of this land will be provided to unemployed youth.

“We need to think about how to sell before planting. The land must be given to an entrepreneur. Because he knows the market, knows the competition”, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

220 people will be employed, and more than 1.2 thousand people will be provided with seasonal jobs.
