On the eve of the nation’s most cherished holiday – the 34th anniversary of the proclamation of Uzbekistan’s independence – President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree pardoning a group of individuals serving sentences who have sincerely repented of their actions and firmly embarked on the path of correction.
According to Article 109, paragraph 23 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, 523 citizens serving prison sentences have been pardoned who sincerely repented of their actions and firmly embarked on the path of correction.
Of those pardoned, 195 persons were released entirely from serving the main sentence, 147 were released from serving their sentence on parole, and the punishment imposed on 87 persons was replaced with a milder one. Additionally, the terms of imprisonment imposed on 94 individuals have been reduced.
Among those pardoned are 8 foreign nationals, 45 women, 31 men over the age of 60, 220 individuals under the age of 30 (including one minor), as well as 15 persons previously involved in the activities of banned organizations.
By the decree, responsible ministries and agencies have been instructed to return pardoned persons to their families and relatives, assist them in social adaptation, employment, adopting a healthy lifestyle, and achieving a worthy place in society.
