The Art and Culture Development Foundation under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan will hold a conference “Where in the World Is Tashkent”, dedicated to the preservation of the modernist architecture of the capital. It will take place at the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan on October 18-19, 2023.
The conference will bring together experts from Uzbekistan and other countries to establish dialogue and help develop a comprehensive strategy for preserving the appearance of Tashkent. Among the guests of honor are the architect Rem Koolhaas, the writer and curator Shumon Basar, and the cultural heritage manager Eduardo Escalante Carrillo.

The conference aims to draw attention to the significance of the modernist heritage of Uzbekistan’s capital.

Simultaneously with the conference, the exhibition project “Tashkent Modernism: Index” will be presented at the museum. It unites the results of two years of intensive research and photographs of architectural objects taken by Armin Linke.

The conference is dedicated to the memory of the architect and historian Jean-Louis Cohen (1949–2023), who significantly contributed to implementing the Tashkent Modernism XX/XXI project. This has been reported by the Art and Culture Development Foundation under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
