The historic center of Bukhara will host the International Biennale of Contemporary Art from September to November this year.

In this regard, the Hokim of Bukhara region, Botir Zaripov, met with Wael Al Awar, the founder of the architectural company Waiwai Design and curator of the upcoming biennale. The meeting was also attended by leading architects from the company and representatives of the Art and Culture Development Foundation under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan. 

The Biennale will be held in Bukhara for the first time and will be based on cutting-edge achievements in global architecture and art. This initiative aims to transform the ancient city into a unique and creative cluster hub for the region. 

The UAE architectural firm Waiwai has been engaged in developing architectural solutions for this project. Currently, project documentation is being prepared.

In accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, restoration, renovation, and improvement work is being carried out on nine sites within the historic center of Bukhara as part of preparations for the International Biennale of Contemporary Art. In particular, asphalt concrete surfaces are planned to be replaced with special stone paving in accordance with the project documentation. 

Discussions have taken place regarding the possibility of holding the biennale under the auspices of UNESCO and the management of an international council. It is proposed that this council include representatives from leading cultural and artistic organizations in the UAE, France, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and other countries. 

At the meeting, participants reviewed the results of practical efforts aimed at the comprehensive improvement of the area, creating necessary conditions for residents and tourists, resolving existing issues, and identifying new opportunities.
