In 2026, the 46th World Chess Olympiad will be held in the ancient and ever-young city of Samarkand.

To ensure the high-level organization of this prestigious tournament, which takes place every two years and brings together nearly 200 of the world’s strongest chess teams, the President of Uzbekistan has issued a resolution “On Measures for Comprehensive Preparation for the 46th World Chess Olympiad in 2026 in Uzbekistan and the Promotion of Chess as a Mass Movement”. 

A meeting of the Organizing Committee for the Olympiad was held at the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan, attended by FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, Minister of Sports Adham Ikramov, Director of the Youth Affairs Agency Alisher Sadullayev, Deputy Chairman of the Uzbekistan Chess Federation Komil Sindorov, and representatives of relevant ministries and agencies. The discussion focused on preparing to host the Olympiad at the highest level, particularly the coordination between ministries and agencies involved in the event’s organization.

FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich emphasized the significance of hosting the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan. He highlighted the achievements of the country’s young chess players on the international stage. 

Minister of Sports Adham Ikramov noted that a roadmap for preparing for the Chess Olympiad has been developed quickly, and specific tasks have been assigned to responsible officials for each preparation area. 

Reports were heard from representatives of the Samarkand regional administration, who participated in the meeting online, and from specialists of the Uzbekistan Chess Federation and relevant organizations regarding implementing the presidential resolution on the Olympiad.
