On December 23, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mirzo Ulugbek Abdusalomov provided information on preliminary results of the elections of deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and Local Councils of People's Deputies.
In the political process, our compatriots have actively demonstrated their civic responsibility and sense of belonging to the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan. In particular, 13 million 963 thousand 627 voters took part in the elections, taking into account our citizens living abroad. This is 67.8 percent of the total number of voters. 150 thousand voters used the right of early voting.
112 thousand 411 voters voted at 55 polling stations established in almost 40 countries.
Deputies were elected to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 128 of the 150 electoral districts.
According to preliminary data, 43 were elected from the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businesspeople – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, from the Democratic Party of Uzbekistan “Milliy Tiklanish” – 35, from the Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Adolat – 21, from the People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan – 18, from the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan – 11 deputies.
According to the Electoral Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a candidate who has received more than half, that is, more than 50 percent of votes who took part in the elections, becomes a deputy.
Since none of the candidates received enough votes in the 22 election districts, no deputies were elected from these districts.
According to the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, the results of the preliminary analysis indicated the presence of a number of shortcomings in the election campaign.
In particular, the lowest turnout in comparison with other regions was recorded in Tashkent, which is a trend peculiar to the population of many large cities.
Family voting cases have been identified in some polling stations. Due to the similarity of voter signatures in the ballot papers, power outages in some regions on the election day, there was a restriction of the possibility of using the single electronic voter list system.
It was noted that the identified shortcomings will necessarily be taken into account during the next elections, the system will be improved.
