Possibility of opening a Croatian Consulate in Samarkand under consideration

A delegation comprising members of the Committee on the Constitution, Standing Orders and Political System of the Croatian Parliament, visiting Uzbekistan, today toured Samarkand.

During a meeting with the Hokim of the city, Fazliddin Umarov, prospects for establishing partnership between Samarkand and Dubrovnik were discussed.

“This visit underscores the parties’ commitment to elevating cooperation between Uzbekistan and Croatia to a new level”, said the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Croatia to Uzbekistan, Refik Šabanović. “During meetings with representatives of the Parliament and Government of Uzbekistan, issues related to opening a Croatian Embassy in Tashkent and a Croatian Consulate in Samarkand were discussed. Further strengthening of relations is also envisaged by granting Samarkand and Dubrovnik the status of sister cities”.

The parties also exchanged views on developing cooperation in transport, pharmaceuticals, communications, and information technology.

As part of the visit program, the delegation members became familiar with the sights of Samarkand.
