A delegation led by the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Sergey Lebedev visited the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.

At a meeting with the Chairperson of the Senate, Tanzila Narbayeva, Mr. Lebedev emphasized that the important political event in Uzbekistan – the parliamentary elections – was held transparently and fairly in full compliance with democratic principles.

The guests also highly praised the large-scale changes and reforms in legislation implemented in Uzbekistan in recent years.

It was emphasized that the country takes initiatives within the CIS and actively engages with its member countries. Issues of further development of cooperation in the economic, cultural, and humanitarian areas were discussed.

A meeting was also held in the Senate with representatives of the parliamentary delegation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, led by Senator Sarmad Ali, Chairman of the Pakistan – Uzbekistan Friendship Group.

At the meeting, it was noted that thanks to the political will of the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Pakistan, relations between the countries are consistently strengthening and expanding, and inter-parliamentary ties play an essential role in the development of strategic partnership.

Particular attention was paid to such important issues as further expansion of cooperation in the political, trade, economic, investment, transport, and communications spheres.

In addition, views were exchanged on increasing the effectiveness of the inter-parliamentary friendship groups of Uzbekistan and Pakistan and establishing joint parliamentary control over the timely and high-quality implementation of agreements reached at the highest level.
