CIS Interstate Statistical Committee, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the State Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, organized an international workshop on “Population census in the CIS member states: Round 2020”, in Tashkent.

On November 27, CIS Interstate Statistical Committee, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the State Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, organized an international workshop on “Population census in the CIS member states: Round 2020”, in Tashkent.

It was attended by representatives of state and public organizations, researchers from leading research centers, scientists, local and foreign experts, and media workers.

Currently, negotiations are held to organize a population census in the CIS countries. In particular, in accordance with the Decree of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev “On approving the Concept of conducting a population census in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2020” in 2022, it is planned to conduct a population census for the first time in the modern history of the country.

The population census in the CIS countries is conducted for the first time in the last 30 years. In accordance with this, indicators for inclusion in census programs and guidelines for their completion were agreed with the statistical agencies of the Commonwealth member states. This will make it possible to obtain comparative information on the volume and flow of migration, to evaluate the total labor force of the population of the countries of the Commonwealth.

Preliminary census results conducted in October this year in Azerbaijan and Belarus, the process of preparing for the census in other Commonwealth member states, as well as the possibilities of census information sources for monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals were discussed at the event.
