The Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States, in cooperation with the Ambassador Series program of the World Affairs Council, organized a briefing at Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, in Washington D.C.

The Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States, in cooperation with the Ambassador Series program of the World Affairs Council, organized a briefing at Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, in Washington D.C. At the briefing, the American public was introduced to the progressive reforms ongoing under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the country, a cardinal transformation in all spheres of life, the course of internal political reforms and priorities of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy.

The event was attended by members of the World Affairs Council from among politico-forming, business, expert-analytical circles, the mass media. U.S. Ambassador Laura Kennedy attended the briefing as the moderator.

In the speech of the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Javlon Vakhabov, it was noted that after the presidential elections in December 2016, Uzbekistan began to introduce reforms that are ambitious in their goals and have a wide scope. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev refocused the Government’s attention on serving the interests of people as the main goal. All government agencies now work for people whose interests are paramount.

The briefing participants were shown “Central Asia – a key priority of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy” video which tells about the results of a new, more active foreign policy towards rapprochement with neighbors in the region in a short time.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the dialogue, the audience showed an active interest in personality of the leader of Uzbekistan as a source of reforms, the situation with respecting human rights, development of Uzbekistan – American relations, the results of historic visit of the President of Uzbekistan to the United States in May 2018, regional security problems, including threats emanating from Afghanistan, efforts on eradicating the causes of radicalization of youth and wide spread of traditions of scientific Islam, and many other issues.
