Pistachio plantations to be expanded

Uzbekistan aims to create extensive pistachio plantations by utilizing desert and steppe regions. To support this project, the country has invited 50 experienced specialists from Iran to evaluate land suitable for pistachio cultivation.

Uzbekistan’s steppe and semi-steppe zones span over 32 million hectares. Studies have explored the potential for pistachio cultivation in Bukhara, Karavulbazar, and nearby districts. A joint inspection by international experts, the Director of the Agency for Agro-Industrial Development, and the Hokim of Qorovulbozor district reviewed 5,000 hectares designated for new high-yield pistachio varieties. These trees are expected to be dwarf varieties suitable for steppe climates. Seedlings will be imported from Iran, and irrigation will be managed through drip technology.

The guests also evaluated 20,000 hectares of unused desert and steppe land, along with the available water sources. Based on favorable soil and water test results, appropriate high-yield, export-oriented pistachio varieties will be chosen.

In the future, the project aims to develop steppe regions and increase pistachio plantations. By integrating scientific research with practical application, it is expected to achieve significant economic benefits.
