Ichan Kala, one of the ancient shrines of Karakalpakstan, is located one-kilometer southeast of Halkabad.
At the beginning of the 18th century, religious views were strengthened on the territory of Karakalpakstan, and many madrasahs, mosques, and small fortresses were built. According to historians, the construction of the Ichan Kala fortress began in the second half of the 18th century. The mosque has a madrasah, a library, a student dormitory, and a caravanserai. Since the fortress was built mainly for religious education, the walls were not very high. Young people came to study from all over the region.
