The regular meeting of the Central Election Commission for the accreditation of observers from foreign countries and international organizations and the organization of the Operational Information Center’s activities was held on September 23.

The Chairman of the Central Election Commission Z. Nizomkhodjayev noted that the interest of foreign countries and international organizations in the elections to representative bodies of state power, which will be held this year in accordance with the renewed election legislation, is extremely high.

Over 1,000 international and foreign observers are expected to participate in the election observation, including about 400 from 50 countries and about 500 from 21 international organizations, such as the Commonwealth of Independent States, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Organization of Turkic States, and another 60 from the election commissions of 26 countries.

“The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights intends to participate in the election observation in Uzbekistan with a full-scale mission consisting of a core team, long-term and short-term observers, a total of about 350 observers”, says CEC member Gulnoza Rakhimova. “International observers monitor the election preparation process, assess the election campaign’s course, and the election legislation’s compliance with international standards. Such interest of foreign states and international organizations in the elections in Uzbekistan indicates the recognition by the international community of the democratic reforms carried out in our country”.

At a meeting of the Central Election Commission, a decision was made to accredit observers from international organizations who will participate in the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Councils. Some observers from international organizations such as the Commonwealth of Independent States, the CIS Parliamentary Assembly, and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights were accredited.
