In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan of November 23, 2023, “On measures to ensure environmental sustainability by further increasing the level of landscaping in the country and the consistent implementation of the nationwide project “Yashil Makon” (Green Space)”, the process of tree certification will be launched in test mode in Tashkent.

Certification will be carried out in three stages. First, trees will be counted using aerial images. In the second stage, a database will be created in which information about the type, age, height, condition, and coordinates of each tree will be entered. In the third stage, all trees will receive an identification number and passport on the “Yashil Makon” electronic platform.

As part of the first stage, the area of green spaces in all regions has already been determined using a geographic information system. For this purpose, satellite photographs and a geographic information system were used. Next, together with the Research Institute of Environment and Nature Conservation Technologies under the Ministry of Ecology, a study of all the trees of the country was carried out using satellite images, remote sensing, geographic information systems, artificial intelligence technologies, and a digital map was created. For this purpose, the experiences of the United States, Canada, China, India, Australia, Russia, Germany, and Japan were studied.

Only young trees whose age did not exceed five years were considered when calculating. The coordinates of 254 million 162 thousand 505 trees were determined and a digital map was created covering the country’s entire territory.

At the same time, the work of the “Yashil Makon” electronic platform is being improved. A register of trees has been introduced, into which inspectors will use tablets to enter photos and data on the type, diameter, condition, coordinates of trees, and the organization responsible for them. More than 200 thousand trees are registered in the country, and information about them is posted on the electronic platform.

According to the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, the progress of tree registration can be monitored on the website yashilmakon.eco.
