
The Central Election Commission’s regular meeting was held on October 31. It considered the issue of registering deputies elected in the elections held on October 27.
At the meeting, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission Z. Nizomkhujayev noted that 15 million 27 thousand 529 voters voted in the elections of deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional and Tashkent city, district and city Councils of People’s Deputies, which amounted to 74.72 percent of the total number of voters. He also emphasized the increased interest of citizens in the electoral process, which was demonstrated during the preparation and conduct of the elections.
In accordance with the Election Law, the results of the elections to the lower house of parliament were considered. 75 deputies were elected from single-mandate constituencies, and 75 deputies were elected from single-mandate constituencies on the party list. In total, 150 deputies were registered.
It was noted that according to the results of the elections of deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis in a single electoral district, the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businesspeople – Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan took 26 seats, the Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish” – 14, the People’s Democratic Party – 13, the Social Democratic Party “Adolat” – 12, and the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan – 10 seats.
In single-mandate constituencies, 38 deputies were elected from UzLiDeP, 15 from the Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish”, 9 from the Social Democratic Party “Adolat”, 7 from the People’s Democratic Party, and 6 from the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan.
The party affiliation of 150 deputies elected to the Legislative Chamber based on the votes cast for parties and candidates for deputy was as follows:
from the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businesspeople – Liberal Democratic Party – 64 seats, or 42.7 percent;
from the Democratic Party of Uzbekistan “Milliy Tiklanish” – 29 seats, or 19.3 percent;
from the Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan “Adolat” – 21 seats, or 14 percent;
from the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan – 20 seats, or 13.3 percent;
from the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan – 16 seats, or 10.7 percent.
According to the election results, the composition of the lower house was renewed by almost 60 percent. 38 percent of the elected deputies were women – the highest figure in Uzbekistan’s history. All deputies have higher education. 15 percent studied abroad, and 35 percent have scientific degrees.
For the first time, three citizens with disabilities were elected as deputies.
Territorial, district, and city election commissions summarized the results of the elections of deputies to local Councils. As noted, following the results of the elections of deputies to the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional and Tashkent city, district, and city Councils of people’s deputies, 59.2 percent of the composition of local Councils was renewed. 32.6 percent of newly elected deputies were women.
Four percent of deputies are up to 30 years old, 39.5 percent are from 30 to 45, 40.8 percent are from 45 to 60, and 15.7 percent are from 60 years and older.
11.2 percent of the elected candidates were representatives of the following nations living in the country: 175 Tajiks, 111 Kazakhs, 33 Turkmens, 29 Russians, 21 Kyrgyz, and others.
93.3 percent of deputies have higher education. Among them, 36.2 percent are teachers, 18.2 percent are economists, 13 percent are engineers, 7.6 percent are doctors, 5 percent are lawyers, 20 percent are representatives of the cultural sphere, entrepreneurs, and farmers. 138 persons with disabilities were elected as deputies of local Councils.
The meeting participants considered approving the Regulation on the certificate and badge of a deputy of the Legislative Chamber, a member of the Senate, and a deputy of the regional, district, and city Councils of People’s Deputies. Relevant decisions were made on the issues discussed.
