On November 1, Tashkent hosted regular meeting of Uzbekistan – European Union Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.

It was attended by members of European Parliament, members of Senate and deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives of domestic and foreign mass media.

Issues of improving the efficiency of reforms in Uzbekistan, improving investment climate, entering foreign markets and expanding cooperation in transport sector, implementation of infrastructure projects, environmental management and water resources, rural development and sustainable agriculture were discussed at the event.

Views were exchanged on certain aspects of international and regional security. The sides touched upon issues of fighting against terrorism, organized crime and drug trafficking, Uzbekistan's initiatives on supporting peace in Afghanistan and process of socio-economic development of the country. The European delegation expressed support for Uzbekistan’s actions aimed at economic reconstruction of Afghanistan.

It was noted that European Union is interested in implementation of new strategy of mutually beneficial cooperation with Central Asian countries, in particular, it was noted that active development of relations with Uzbekistan serves not only the interests of the region but also of other countries.

Deputies of European Parliament were informed about reforms in political and economic spheres of Uzbekistan. It was noted that Uzbekistan is carrying out reforms on liberalizing all spheres of society and deepening democratic reforms.

Issues of active cooperation between Uzbekistan and European Union, in particular, deepening relations in the sphere of parliamentarism, development of practical cooperation were discussed at the meeting.
