The first stage of construction of a new airfield complex has begun at the Andijan International Airport.

According to Uzbekistan Airports JSC, the construction of a new airfield complex is envisaged as part of the reconstruction of the airport. It will consist of a runway 3,400 meters long and 60 meters wide, taxiways, and an apron with seven parking spaces for aircraft. Modern lighting equipment of the second ICAO category (CAT-II) will be installed there, allowing receiving and dispatching of all aircraft types at night and in difficult weather conditions. The project will be implemented in 2023-2024. The new airfield complex will contribute to tourism development and improve the region’s investment climate.

The airport’s existing runway, which is 2,985 meters long and 44 meters wide, has limitations on handling many types of aircraft due to the low load-bearing capacity of the pavement. Also, due to the lack of a modern lighting system, it has restrictions on receiving aircraft at night.
