Efforts to unlock the tourism potential of Khorezm region are yielding notable results. This is reflected in the sharp rise in foreign tourist visits to the region, which have increased thirtyfold compared to seven or eight years ago. Thanks to positive developments in the sector, the region’s tourism service exports grew from $7 million in 2017 to $380 million last year.
Historically, tourism in the region was often associated almost exclusively with Ichan Kala. However, that perception has shifted significantly in recent years: more than forty new tourist routes have been developed, bringing the total to one hundred.
The region has gained another distinctive landmark – the “Arda Khiva” tourist complex, whose opening marked a significant highlight of the President’s visit to Khorezm region.

The complex is designed as a city within the ancient city. It is a unique project that blends historical motifs with contemporary architectural forms.
The center was built on 25 hectares of previously low-yield and saline land. One side of the complex borders Lake Govuk, which spans 150 hectares. Green zones are being developed around the lake, further enhancing the site’s appeal for tourists.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev toured the complex’s grounds, inspected the construction sites, viewed exhibitions of traditional crafts and decorative arts, and visited the rows of the Eastern bazaar.

The complex offers all the necessary amenities for visitors. It features 20 hotels styled after an ancient city, with a total capacity of 1,000 guests. An aqua park, amusement rides, a 3,000-seat amphitheater, and a musical fountain have also been constructed.
Tourists will also be drawn to 11 artisan houses built in a historical style, an oriental market, and the “Ancient Urgench” museum. One of the highlights of the complex is the opportunity to take gondola rides along a two-kilometer canal.
The site also includes five cinemas and concert halls, various restaurants, a jewelry center, shopping arcades, a jet ski zone, and a spacious parking lot. A centralized heating and cooling system supports all facilities, while solar panels provide a sustainable source of electricity.

The complex is designed to accommodate up to 3 million visitors annually and will employ over 2,000 people.
While Ichan Kala represents the historical face of Khiva, Arda Khiva is emerging as its modern hallmark.
During his visit to the complex, the Head of state also met with the youth of Khorezm.

“Natural resources are finite and eventually deplete. But our ancestors left us a great spiritual heritage and monumental legacies that have served the people for centuries. We must use this wealth for the benefit of our country. Much has already been accomplished, but even more lies ahead. I believe in you, the youth. If you strive for excellence, pursue knowledge, and master modern professions, we will certainly achieve our goals”, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated.
The conversation included discussions on students’ academic achievements, their dreams, and future aspirations.
