Deputy Chairman of the International Relations and Foreign Economic Affairs, Foreign Investments and Tourism Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Odiljon Mamatkarimov, held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Uzbekistan, Thamer Fathi Abdussalam Hammad.

The parties exchanged views on inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries, particularly the participation of the Egyptian parliamentary delegation in the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, to be held in Tashkent on April 5-9, 2025.

The interlocutor was informed that such a prestigious event is being held for the first time in the history of Uzbekistan, and about two thousand members of parliaments from almost 190 countries will participate in it.

The Ambassador noted that 14 delegates from the Arab Republic of Egypt, led by the Chairman of the Parliament, will arrive to participate in the event.

The parties also discussed organizational issues related to holding the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The Chairperson of the Committee on Youth, Women, Culture, and Sports Affairs, Orzigul Kozikhonova met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Uzbekistan Reinis Trokša.

The aspects of supporting women, protecting their rights and interests, combating gender-based violence, further improving national legislation, and conducting relevant research with authorized organizations and departments were discussed at the meeting.

It was noted that Uzbekistan’s experience in ensuring gender equality and empowering women in all areas deserves approval.

At the same time, the Latvian Ambassador expressed his willingness to share experiences on increasing women’s political activism, organizing studies for them, conducting gender analysis, and collecting statistical data by law enforcement agencies on working with women victims of harassment and violence.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to establish cooperation within the framework of the discussed topics.
