Due to the large-scale reforms implemented by the President of Uzbekistan in recent years, the development of the Aral Sea region has been identified as a key area of state policy.

Within the framework of the Aral Culture Summit, Amanbai Orynbaev, Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, met with Ivana Živković, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States of the United Nations Development Programme.

Measures implemented in Uzbekistan to strengthen its partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, as well as initiatives aimed at improving the quality of people’s lives, were discussed at the meeting.

The importance of practical measures to further expand cooperation with the European Union, a world leader in developing and implementing strategies to counteract the adverse effects of climate change and adapt to them, was also emphasized. 

The parties exchanged views on expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UNDP, in particular, the sustainable development of Karakalpakstan and the Aral Sea Region.
