On November 6, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with a delegation led by the OSCE Special Representative of the Chairperson-in-Office on Gender Melanne Verveer.

Deputy Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis S.Artykova informed the guests on reforms being implemented in the country on strengthening the role and status of women in family and society, protecting their rights, increasing socio-political and medical culture, intellectual potential.

Guests provided information on implementation of the organization’s commitments in the countries of the world in accordance with the OSCE Action Plan adopted in 2004 for protecting the rights of women and ensuring gender equality.

Melanne Verveer noted with satisfaction that in Uzbekistan human rights have been raised to the highest level of value, in particular, the pace of practical actions on ensuring gender equality is increasing. At the same time, the guest emphasized that the forthcoming international conference on “The role of women in democratic renewal and modernization of the country: experience of Uzbekistan and international practice” in Tashkent will become a convenient platform for sharing experience in this sphere and introducing advanced technologies.
