The Central Election Commission hosted a meeting with representatives of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, who arrived in Uzbekistan to observe the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Councils of People’s Deputies.

The meeting was attended by long-term observers of this mission – Advisor to the Secretary General of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly S. Karavaev and expert of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IIMDD) S. Tkachenko.

The Chairman of the Central Election Commission Z. Nizamkhodjayev noted that constructive cooperation with the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly is enhancing. Along with this, the IPA CIS is one of the CEC’s partners in the electoral sphere in the Commonwealth, an active participant in monitoring the elections held in Uzbekistan in recent years and presenting essential recommendations based on the results. 

The importance of improving the legal framework for elections and implementing recommendations of election observation missions from international organizations, including the IPA CIS, into national legislation and practice was noted.

Information was provided on the upcoming elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Councils of People’s Deputies, which will be held in the country on October 27 this year based on a mixed electoral system, and its features. The importance of such an innovation as introducing the “E-saylov” information system into national electoral practice and its advantages was also discussed.

The possibility of preparing and distributing campaign materials for this year’s elections using artificial intelligence technologies was also discussed.

In turn, the mission representatives wished success in holding the upcoming elections at a high organizational level based on generally recognized international democratic principles.
