The 20th Meeting of Chief Justices of Supreme Courts of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Member States is being held in Hangzhou under the chairmanship of the People’s Republic of China.

The event is being attended by delegations from Uzbekistan, China, Russia, Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan.

The Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of SCO dialogue partner countries – Azerbaijan and Türkiye – and representatives of the SCO Secretariat and the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure Executive Committee are also in attendance.

The event will address several pressing issues to strengthen cooperation among the supreme courts of SCO member states in upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens’ rights and legitimate interests.

The delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan is headed by the Chairman of the Supreme Court, Bakhtiyor Islamov.

As part of his visit to China, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Islamov met with Zhang Jun, President of the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China.

The parties exchanged views on the development of bilateral relations, emphasizing the existing potential and opportunities for effective interagency cooperation in the judicial and legal sphere. Discussions included the specialization of courts, the introduction of modern information technologies, and innovative approaches to the judicial system, as well as other relevant topics.

During the meeting with the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Tajikistan, Rustam Mirzozoda, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation between the two countries’ highest judicial bodies. It was noted that the Memorandum of Cooperation signed in 2018 plays a vital role in strengthening the legal foundations of bilateral cooperation and mutual understanding between the supreme judicial authorities and in enhancing the effectiveness of efforts to uphold the rule of law.

During the meeting with the Chief Justice of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje'i, the parties discussed expanding practical cooperation between judicial institutions and explored promising areas for further developing bilateral relations. They also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
