Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong was among those awarded this year with the badge “For the Protection of Human Rights”.
A friend and permanent partner of Uzbekistan received this award for his contribution to developing international cooperation in human rights.
During the recent visit of the Uzbekistan delegation to Switzerland to participate in events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of adopting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a meeting was held with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
During the talks, the head of the delegation – First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Director of the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights Akmal Saidov solemnly presented the award to its owner.
Mr. Chungong noted that the Parliament of Uzbekistan plays a special role in the activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, as well as in the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation and the successful implementation of joint events. In this regard, he thanked the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his outstanding contribution to strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Following the talks, Mr. Chungong thanked the Uzbekistan parliament for its statement of readiness to hold the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, scheduled for 2025, in Uzbekistan.
