The 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union is underway in Tashkent. UzA correspondent spoke with Manzoor Nadir, Speaker of the Parliament of Guyana and a participant in this prestigious event:
“I can confidently say that my visit to Uzbekistan has been filled with exceptionally positive impressions. Your people and your country are distinguished by their hospitality and warmth.
All the necessary conditions have been created to allow more than 2,000 delegates to work freely and productively during the conference.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union session held in Uzbekistan is dedicated to stability, progress, and human development issues. The topics under discussion will contribute to further improving our legislative body’s work and advancing our state’s development.
A key highlight of the Assembly was the participation of the President of Uzbekistan, whose essential ideas and initiatives added significant value to the event.
Guyana is a country located on the northeastern coast of South America. Our population is multiethnic, and Muslims make up about 15 percent of the total. We live in peace and harmony.
Previously, our country faced considerable economic challenges, marked by a high poverty level. However, in recent years, we have seen positive changes linked to the start of oil production, contributing to sustainable economic growth.
During my stay in Uzbekistan, what impressed me the most was the high level of public safety and the local people’s remarkable politeness and sincerity.
I must say that it is essential for young people to have the opportunity to contribute to the work of parliament, which was demonstrated at the Assembly.
I have served in parliament for nearly 30 years, have held ministerial positions twice, and currently serve as Speaker.
Women and youth deserve the most support, as they are the bearers of innovative ideas and new approaches.
The distance between Uzbekistan and Guyana is considerable, but it does not hinder the development of strong relations. It is essential to foster inter-parliamentary and intergovernmental ties.
Uzbekistan is a unique country where various civilizations meet. It has established solid and mutually beneficial partnerships with its closest neighbors. In this context, Uzbekistan can serve as an example for many countries.
Such practical examples will contribute to the successful conduct of negotiations aimed at strengthening peace and stability".
