The National Press Center hosted a press conference on improving the regulatory framework in metrology. The event was organized by the Uzbek National Institute of Metrology, part of the Agency for Technical Regulation.

It was noted that during the first half of this year, several initiatives were proposed to enhance the Law on Metrology. In this process, the best practices of developed countries such as Germany, Türkiye, Japan, and the Republic of Korea have been studied.

In particular, a Concept was developed for adapting legislation in metrology to WTO requirements, which was discussed with the participation of interested ministries and agencies, as well as international experts. The concept provides for adapting technical regulations, metrological inspections, a system of standards, and state control mechanisms to WTO standards.

The ongoing reforms to improve metrology, strengthen its legal framework, and bring it to a competitive level in the international arena will help boost the country’s economy and enhance its export potential.

In addition, the legislation defines key areas, including encouraging representatives of the private sector to provide calibration services, fostering a competitive environment, and developing a network of services through both government and non-government laboratories.
