“Lazgi” in the global spotlight: Khiva hosts an international conference
As part of the 3rd International Lazgi Dance Festival, the 3rd International Scientific and Practical Conference on “Dance art in global cultural development: traditions and universal values” will be held in Khiva on April 27-28.
The organizers include the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Khorezm regional administration, UNESCO, TURKSOY, the Directorate of International Festivals, the State Academy of Choreography of Uzbekistan, the Research Institute of Cultural Studies and Intangible Cultural Heritage, and several domestic and foreign media outlets.
The conference will bring together art historians and choreography specialists from more than 20 countries, including the United States, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Brazil, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Egypt, Pakistan, Russia, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, France, Sweden, and the Republic of Korea. Participation is also expected from professors, lecturers, researchers, master’s students, and university students from Uzbek higher education institutions. The conference will be held in Uzbek, Russian, and English.
The conference’s work will be organized into the following sections:
– “Khorezm dance ‘Lazgi’: historical-philosophical and national-cultural aspects”;
– “Development of choreographic art in the context of globalization”;
– “The ‘Lazgi’ phenomenon: innovative strategies for the preservation of intangible cultural heritage”.
Within the framework of the festival, at the initiative of TURKSOY, the 2nd meeting of heads of educational institutions in the field of ballet and choreography of the Turkic world will also be held. Participants will discuss implementing an international project to prepare the six-volume “Anthology of traditional folk dances of the Turkic world”. Particular attention will be given to developing a section dedicated to Uzbek folk dances.
In addition, during the conference, presentations on scientific publications will be held. A thematic book exhibition and a roundtable discussion featuring leading specialists will be organized.
Following the conference, a final resolution is planned for adoption.
