Kyrgyzstan hosts the 35th Meeting of the CIS Information Council
Participants in the 35th meeting of the Council of Heads of State News Agencies of the CIS (CIS Information Council) discussed the development of the tourism sector, emphasizing the need for broad, objective coverage of popular and emerging travel routes across the Commonwealth.
“The variety of tourism options across the Commonwealth allows for nearly any demand to be met. However, many people find it difficult to navigate the choices and make informed decisions due to a lack of essential information”, said Andrey Kondrashov, Chairman of the CIS Information Council and TASS Director General. “There’s also a strong need for unbiased information about new tourist routes, including the real opportunities and conditions for recreation. Developing domestic tourism is crucial not only for economic reasons but also for strengthening friendly ties between nations and increasing understanding of their history, present, and future. State news agencies can play a vital role in promoting tourism awareness by offering comprehensive, objective coverage and highlighting the tourism treasures of the Commonwealth”.
Recalling Uzbekistan’s recent proposal to the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to expand tourism cooperation and join the Central Asian Tourism Ring initiative, the TASS Director General emphasized interest in developing joint tourist routes.
The participants emphasized the importance of providing potential tourists with practical, objective information about specific tourism destinations, routes, locations, and travel and recreation conditions. In this regard, they highlighted the relevance of traditional formats used by news agencies, such as organizing press tours, holding thematic seminars, creating photo exhibitions and special projects, and exchanging experience.
The meeting program helped participants become familiar with Kyrgyzstan’s extensive preparations for the Sixth World Nomad Games. They visited the Games venues in Cholpon-Ata on the shores of picturesque Lake Issyk-Kul, which will host athletes, fans, and tourists from nearly 100 countries throughout the week.
Participants endorsed holding educational seminars at TASS for journalists and photo correspondents from CIS countries on current topics such as artificial intelligence, modern media technologies, and information security.
