A delegation led by a Member of the House of Councillors of the Japanese Parliament, Ms. Michiko Ueno, who arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the 150th IPU Assembly, visited the Samarkand Agroinnovations and Research University and became familiar with the university’s activities.

The Rector of the Institute, Shavkat Hasanov, informed the guests in detail, including employees of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japanese Embassy in Uzbekistan, about the projects implemented jointly with Japanese universities and organizations and their results.

The Institute, together with the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology and the Japan – Uzbekistan Friendship Association, is implementing an international project “Increasing incomes of the rural population of Samarkand through the sale of dried dates”.

Getting acquainted with the first results of this project, the delegation members recognized that Uzbekistan has excellent potential for producing export-oriented products and increasing people’s incomes.

At the meeting, Japanese experts proposed developing joint projects to dry other fruits grown in Uzbekistan.
