
The Union of Writers of Uzbekistan, the Agency of Information and Mass Communications, the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, and the Republican Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment announce the opening of submissions for the Muhammad Rizo Ogahi International Prize in Literary Translation.
The competition is being organized in accordance with the Presidential Resolution of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the establishment of the Muhammad Rizo Ogahi International Prize in Literary Translation” of June 4, 2024. It aims to comprehensively support the translation of the best works of Uzbek literature into foreign languages and outstanding works of world literature into Uzbek.
This event, held for the first time in Uzbekistan, aims to recognize translators who actively promote Uzbek literature worldwide appropriately, translate outstanding works of world literature into the Uzbek language, and present them to readers. It also seeks to popularize reading among young people and increase international interest in the works of Uzbek writers.
The competition accepts translated works that have been published either as books or in printed periodicals and electronic literary publications within five years before the announcement date, in the following categories:
– Best translation of prose works of Uzbek literature into foreign languages (minimum of 10 printed sheets);
– Best translation of poetic works of Uzbek literature into foreign languages (minimum of 5 printed sheets);
– Best translation of samples of Uzbek children’s literature into foreign languages (minimum of 5 printed sheets);
– Best translation into Uzbek of prose works originally written in foreign languages (minimum of 10 printed sheets);
– Best translation into Uzbek of poetic works originally written in foreign languages (minimum of 5 printed sheets);
– Best translation into Uzbek of samples of children’s literature originally written in foreign languages (minimum of 5 printed sheets).
Translated works in the drama genre will be considered per the rules specified in the relevant section of the document mentioned above.
The Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan accepts submissions for the international competition until September 1, 2025.
Each winner will be awarded a special diploma, a commemorative badge, and a one-time monetary prize equivalent to 300 times the base calculation amount.
