On November 1-2, 2018, representatives of the Development Strategy Center took part in an international forum in Beijing, dedicated to the issues of reforms on the openness, social protection of the population, as well as global poverty reduction.

According to the Development Strategy Center, the two-day forum was organized by the China’s national Global Strategy Institute, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Ministry of Finance of China, the World Bank Group, the Leading Poverty Reduction and Development Group at the State Council of China, with the support of the China Development Bank. The Forum brought together representatives of international organizations, leading think tanks, government officials, academic and business circles, and others.

A congratulatory speech on behalf of the President of the People's Republic of China and the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres was read at the Forum. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank Group, also made a welcoming speech.

The event highlighted the issues of international cooperation on poverty reduction and sustainable development. The participants were presented the China’s concept to address this problem, as well as the world's leading innovative practices, the role and contribution of global financial development institutions in poverty eradication.

While exchanging views, the Development Strategy Center Director Akmal Burkhanov highlighted Uzbekistan’s practices of reforms and openness. Specifically, he called these issues the driving force of sustainable development and poverty reduction. He emphasized that ensuring the sustainable development of mankind as the most significant problem facing the world community at the present stage.

The DSC Director ranked the universal elimination of all forms of poverty, the elimination of hunger, food security and nutrition, and the promotion of sustainable agriculture among major goals.

Akmal Burkhanov stressed that the development of the social sector is one of the key areas of the National Action Strategy on Five Priority Development Areas 2017-2021. He introduced the participants to the state policy on ensuring social protection of the population within the framework of the Action Strategy 2017-2021.

On the threshold of the Forum, the participants got acquainted with the achievements of the social and accelerated economic development of the Shenzhen and Henan provinces.
