Head of Uzbekistan Mission to the EU, Ambassador Dilyor Khakimov, met with the Head of Nuclear Safety Coordination and International Relations Unit at the European Commission (Euratom), Hans Rhein, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reports.

At the meeting, the European side expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation with Uzbekistan in the energy sector, including in the field of nuclear energy within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2011. In this regard, the parties emphasized the importance of establishing an interregional dialogue in this direction.

The representative of Euratom welcomed the creation of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and showed interest in the decision of Uzbekistan to build the first nuclear power plant in Central Asia. The readiness was expressed to continue cooperation with Uzbekistan in the interests of ensuring a high level safety of the future nuclear power plant. In particular, as was emphasized during a thorough discussion, Euratom is ready to cooperate with Uzbekistan on conducting stress tests on the safety of nuclear power plants.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on taking necessary measures for intensifying the dialogue by exchanging information and experience with interested ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan, as well as on paying visits in the near future at the level of leadership of relevant agencies of the two sides.
