Intensification of fish farming boosts productivity

As the Head of the Press Service of the Uzbekbaliqsanoat Association, Zilola Ruziyeva, noted at a briefing at the Agency of Information and Mass Communications, fish farming is organized in artificial reservoirs occupying 63 thousand hectares and in natural reservoirs with an area of 537 thousand hectares.

Over the past year, fish farms have implemented several measures to develop the industry. In particular, 7 hatcheries specializing in fry production were put into operation. Reproductive reservoirs for breeding 14 million fish were operated on 270 hectares. The number of farms for breeding cold-water fish was increased to 24, and their capacity was increased to 6,000 tons. In this direction, 5 new projects were implemented last year, and 1.2 thousand tons of new capacity were put into operation.

As a result of the introduction of intensive fish farming technologies, productivity per 1 hectare increased by 3-4 times. Currently, more than 8 thousand hectares of land have been intensified. The launch of three enterprises to produce high-protein feed with a capacity of 12 thousand tons also yielded results.

241 regional projects worth 712 billion UZS have been launched. 2,500 new jobs were created.
