A delegation of Uzbekistan led by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva attended the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, in Geneva.

The role of interparliamentary diplomacy in addressing modern global threats, social instability, armed conflicts, and climate change, as well as strengthening international cooperation, promoting fair governance principles, and ensuring active national parliaments’ participation in improving people’s well-being, was discussed during the conference.

Ms. Narbayeva addressed the conference and spoke about the democratic reforms carried out by the President of Uzbekistan, as well as the efforts aimed at developing parliamentary diplomacy and strengthening regional and international cooperation.

The results of the 150th IPU Assembly in Tashkent in April this year were highly appreciated.

In particular, the Tashkent Declaration adopted following the event and two essential resolutions on the peaceful settlement of conflicts and the promotion of sustainable development were recognized as a practical expression of global interparliamentary solidarity.

The representative of Uzbekistan put forward several proposals during the conference. The participants stressed the need to strengthen the role of parliaments in the political-diplomatic settlement of conflicts, as well as broad support for peace initiatives based on international law and the UN Charter.

At the same time, it was proposed to hold the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in 2026 in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

It has been announced that an international conference on Poverty Reduction is planned to be held in Uzbekistan in September, which is expected to widely involve representatives of foreign parliaments, non-governmental organizations, and experts.
