The Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy outlines a transition to a green economy, with a significant increase in the share of renewable energy sources as its basis.

As part of a project implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Urgut Free Economic Zone in Samarkand region and the Mechanic Small Industrial Zone in Fergana region were transformed into eco-industrial parks. As a result, enterprises began producing goods that meet environmental standards and significantly reduced their costs.

By introducing green technologies and promoting the principles of a circular economy, the project helps create a model for environmentally friendly industrial development in Uzbekistan. The project also provides training, support, and capacity-building for local specialists.

Since 2023, GIZ, with the support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, has been implementing the pilot project “Eco-Industrial Parks in Uzbekistan”. The initiative aims to reduce industrial emissions into the atmosphere and support enterprises in transitioning to environmentally friendly technologies. The results achieved so far have been reviewed, and plans have been outlined for further implementation of similar initiatives.

The implementation of such projects motivates local enterprises to adopt green economy principles, thereby increasing the competitiveness of their products, opening access to international markets, and boosting entrepreneurs’ incomes.
