An international conference on “Healthcare reforms in Uzbekistan in the era of sustainable development goals” was held in Tashkent on November 20 in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, European Regional Office and WHO Country Office in Uzbekistan.

An international conference on “Healthcare reforms in Uzbekistan in the era of sustainable development goals” was held in Tashkent on November 20 in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, European Regional Office and WHO Country Office in Uzbekistan.

It was attended by representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, international organizations such as WHO, UN, UNICEF.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan A.Abdukhakimov, Minister of Health of Uzbekistan A.Shodmonov, WHO Regional Director for Europe Z.Jakab delivered a speech at the conference.

A new concept project was presented at the conference.

It provides priority action areas on strengthening healthcare sector. It covers such priority tasks as improvement of legislation in the sphere of medicine, organization of work and healthcare management, improving the quality of medical care.

At the conference, the Minister of Health A.Shodmonov focused on the results of new concept, which concentrates all reforms in the sphere. According to him, through introduction of new concept, it will become possible to achieve resolution of existing problems, reducing mortality of mothers and children by 15 percent, newborns and children under 5 – by 30 percent. In addition, basic and program funding for medical research institutions will be established.

Issues of strengthening primary healthcare, financing healthcare system, stabilization of strategic management were also considered.

The conference was attended by Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan A.Abduvokhidov.
