Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Amanbay Orinbaev, received a delegation led by the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Mafalda Duarte.

The meeting participants discussed in detail the work carried out in recent years under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan to develop the Aral Sea region, eliminate the consequences of the ecological disaster in the area, and ensure the local population’s well-being. They also considered opportunities to attract grant funding from international donor organizations to improve living conditions in the Aral Sea region, mitigate environmental impacts, and explore innovative solutions based on partner experience to improve the ecological situation.

As part of the visit to the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the delegation visited the International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea Basin, operating under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The guests became familiar with projects to restore the Aral Sea ecosystem, improve living conditions for the population, and develop the green economy. The delegation members were informed about project proposals aligned with sustainable development and climate priorities.

Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Mafalda Duarte, expressed her gratitude for the materials provided and emphasized the importance of such experience for the global sustainable development agenda. The discussions also covered the possibility of including the Center’s project initiatives in the grant programs of the Green Climate Fund.
